WHY JAPANESE

WHY

The reason why I want to take Japanese is associated to my interested in Japan animation. My obsession in animation can be tracked back to 13 years ago when I first received a CD of Sailor Moon as a gift from my Cousin. Since then, my world was full Japanese amines, especially the romance genre. My little heart was melt and  full of love moments. The art, fancy characters, and romantic storylines never faded away as I grew up.

However, I didn't get a chance to actually learn the language. Even after watching hundreds of episodes and series of movies, I was not fully exposed to the language with the help of subtitles. Right now, I would love to pick up my interests in Japanese culture and take it to a higher level through learning Japanese.

So far, I feel like learning Japanese require not only passion but also persistence. However, sometimes converting Japanese from the mixed of both English and Chinese would a challenge for me. Since English is not my mother language, learning Japanese from a base of English sometimes cause confusion. I hope someday I can find a explicit boundary or way to deal with these three languages when I learn Japanese.

  1. はじめまして。I empathize with your challenge of learning Japanese from an English basis. I'm fluent in Korean and English, studied Mandarin for a few years, and am now trying to learn Japanese and so it gets mixed up for me as well. I've also been exposed to Japanese anime as well but never got to see a full series. Hopefully you can recommend me some :)

  2. はじめまして。ゼンです。Much of the reason why I wanted to learn Japanese comes from my love of anime, too! I tend to like action anime, however. What are some of your favorites?

  4. はじめまして。I was also very interested in Japanese animation. Now I'm learning Japanese basically for a necessity in research but I think in fact it's the interest in Japanese animation, movies, and culture that pushes me to learn it. I started to learn Japanese when I was in China. It was also confusing because I couldn't remember the pronunciation of Japanese words when I saw it in Kanji. I'm still trying to get rid of the influence of Chinese characters when I read Japanese.
